Children and Young People’s Counsellor Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial assessments and manage ongoing therapy sessions for individuals and parents of CYP
  • Deliver creative, evidence-based therapeutic interventions in a safe, professional environment
  • Maintain accurate client records and adhere to safeguarding policies
  • Participate in paid supervision (individual and group) and monthly team meetings
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture, sharing knowledge and ideas

Working Hours & Contract:

  • Minimum commitment: 10 hours per week (flexible, up to full-time)
  • Core hours: 1 pm–8 pm, with availability between 3 pm–8 pm essential
  • Initial zero-hours contract during probation, transitioning to guaranteed contracted hours with paid overtime

Essential Criterea

  • Recognised post qualifying qualification working with children from either 5+, 8+ or 11+
  • Passionate about working with children and young people
  • Professional body membership (BACP, UKCP, NCS, or equivalent)
  • Ability to be engaging and work creatively with young people.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong organisational skills to manage caseloads effectively whilst maintaining thorough documentation.
  • Uphold ethical standards and maintain professional boundaries at all times.

    Experience

    • Proven experience delivering therapeutic interventions within a clinical or community setting is desirable.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse client groups
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to client welfare. This role provides an enriching environment for professional growth whilst making a positive impact on individuals’ mental health.
